A Look Back at 10 Years of Flawless Oscar Fashion

The star-studded 2014 award season is coming to an end with the Oscars coming up this Sunday. Sure we love the movies, the actors, and the speeches. What we really love the most though is the glitz, the glam, and the fashion. The Oscars are known to be one of the best nights of Red Carpet Fashion of the year, where the men look dapper and the women look absolutely classy and fabulous. Being nominated for an Academy Award is the highest honor an actor could ever dream of receiving. The event in itself brings out the best in the entertainment industry, so there are no questions as to why everyone who attends will be looking their best.

In honor of the Oscars, we decided to take a look back at some of the best-dressed winners from the past 10 years.

 

In 2004, Charlize Theron looked absolutely flawless in her sparkly Gucci gown upon receiving the award for her role in Monster. The neutral color goes perfectly with her skin tone and the train was the perfect length to strut down the carpet in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2005, Hilary Swank snagged the award for best actress in Million Dollar Baby, wearing Guy Laroche. Not many people can pull off the high neckline, but with the complimentary open back she had heads turning and people talking for days.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2006, Reese Witherspoon nailed it with her Vintage Dior gown. Not only did she “Walk the Line,” but she also walked her way onto every best-dressed list for that night. In our opinion, vintage never goes out of style, especially for an event like the Oscars.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2007, Helen Mirren kept it classy and fabulous in her Christian Lacroix gown.  The pale, gold-beaded, custom-made piece fit her body like a glove. The neckline was able to enhance her beautiful smile as she claimed the award for her role in The Queen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2008, Marion Cotillard looked like a beautiful modern-day mermaid in her Jean Paul Gaultier gown. White is a hard color to compliment, but the outlined fishtail fabric made it pop like no other dress before. Looking fabulous added to the amazing feeling of winning the award for her role in La Vie En Rose.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2009, Kate Winslet leaves everyone speechless in Atelier Yves Saint Laurent. Normally when it comes to these huge award shows, we prefer it when actresses don’t wear black, but this one shoulder satin-layered gown has us thinking otherwise. All we can say about this is, WOW. She won the best actress award for her role in the The Reader.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2010, Sandra Bullock won the esteemed best actress award for her role in The Blind Side wearing Marchesa. What better way to win an Oscar than looking like an Oscar itself? She looked absolutely beautiful with her straight hair, bold red lipstick, and minimal jewelry, all of which complimented the vintage beading on the dress. This quite possibly may be our favorite.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2011, Natalie Portman did not let pregnancy hold her back from looking stunning in Rodarte. The color choice was bold, but she pulled it off amazingly. The V neckline was able to shape her baby bump in all the right ways. She confidently walked down the carpet and then onto the stage to grab her award for her role in Black Swan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2012, Meryl Streep was finally able to win an Academy Award for her role in The Iron Lady, where she wore a shiny gold gown by Lanvin. Remember how we said there was no better way to win an Oscar than looking like an Oscar itself? Well, we think Streep may have taken that notion a little too far with this one. The color of the dress does go well against her skin tone and she does look flawless, but this dress is not really one of our favorites. Iron Lady? More like the Goldmember!

 

 

 

 

 

 

To round things up, last year in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence not only won the award for best actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, but also the award for winning at life itself. She looked unbelievably breathtaking in the blush pink strapless Christian Dior gown. Although the large and heavy bottom may have caused her to take a tumble trying to claim her award, it didn’t matter because everyone was so taken back by how beautiful she looked. Her hair was pulled back perfectly to compliment the strapless nature of the dress and her makeup was flawless.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyone notice a trend in all the winner’s dresses? Aside from a few select standouts (Hilary Swank’s navy blue and Natalie Portman’s fuchsia) almost all of the winners wore a soft, neutral, often shimmery hue. Should this year’s nominees be taking note of this?! Whoever wins this year, I’m sure she will look absolutely stunning. Until then, we just really can’t wait to see what the Oscars will have in store for this wonderful night of Red Carpet fashion.

NYC Spring Fashion Week Round Up

Although there is still snow on the ground and the temperatures are below the degrees of COLD, fashion forecasters only had spring on the mind. Fashion Week went by in a flash, but started off with a bang thanks to ready-to-wear designers and major shows from Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, and – celebrating her 30th anniversary on top in the fashion business – Donna Karan. Just as we forecasted, we saw all the latest spring 2014 trends we told you to look out for. What we did not anticipate though was how HOT the white-collar trend was going to be.

Every designer you could possibly think of at the top of your head sent their models down the runway in what seems to be this coming seasons must have: The White Collar. Tory Burch, Phillip Lim, Carolina Herrera, BCBG Max Azria, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, and that’s only naming a few. Everyone who is anyone put out the white-collar look in his or her collection and for good reason. People are raving, especially all of us here at The Hip Event. Every designer obviously had his or her own take on this seasons hottest trend. One style that really stood out to us was Ralph Lauren’s business in the 60’s look. It is very retro-esk yet still modern and hot. A simple black knitted dress with a pop of white at the collar. This black mini is sure to be seen all over the place once the line launches in stores.

 

Other fun and inventive looks that took the runway by storm this past week were the metallic and 3D designs. Marc Jacobs added a dark dazzle to his line with a shiny knee length dress. The blue sequin stripes over a black lace really had heads turning and jaws dropping. Another eye-popping look was sent down the runway at the Altuzarra show. The idea of the dress is a more laid-back evening look draped with liquid gold and silver separates. This look really sent the metallic trend into full swing this season.

 

One more trend that seems to be sticking around another year is the floral print. With designers like Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger revamping the look to keep up with this seasons hottest trends, it’s no wonder the look hasn’t faded away. The look is all easy, breezy, and fun if you ask us and it is also definitely something keeping our minds on the fact that spring is just around the corner.

Mercedes-Benz NYC Spring Fashion Week 2014

Start getting excited ladies because it’s time for the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right fellow fashionistas, Mercedes-Benz kicks off Spring Fashion Week in New York today, February 6, 2014. There may be another 6 weeks left of winter, but the fashion world is ready to start looking ahead.

Fashion Week is always full of the most amazing and jaw dropping styles and outfits we could ever dream of seeing. Here is what you should be expecting to see during this seasons NY Fashion Week.

 

The Runway Report

Make sure you keep your eye out on the white collar. Designer favorites expected to be presenting this in their collections are Christian Dior, Valentino, Donna Karan, Hermes, and more.

Next we have the multi-layered sequin and crystals inspired “see it in 3D” trend that will be hitting the runway. These are the outfits that will really have you taking a second look and wondering how on earth anyone could pull it off. Trust us, the models make it look so easy. Some designers sending this look down the runway include Prada, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, and Dolce and Gabbana.

You know what they say; April showers bring May flowers! And you know this season’s collection is going to include a new spin on the ever so popular floral trend. The designers adding a new twist and a stellar vibe to the floral trend this season include Emporio Armani, Thakoon, and Stella McCartney.

Who doesn’t love a good fringe? Fringes are fun and flirty and have a way of picking up any mood. This dress by Calvin Klein really does a great job at showing how fringe is making a comeback and not coming back quietly. It is definitely a trend for those with a more boho-chic kind of style, but soon to be for anyone with any kind of style.

Rise and shine ladies, literally.  We weren’t kidding when we said glam was a huge part of this season’s trends. Metallic and glitzed out dresses are really a hot commodity and only going to get hotter. To prove how hot it is, designers such as Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Fendi, and Tom Ford are all sending models down the runway in this season’s hottest trend. These are also dresses you could actually imagine wearing yourself, which is a huge plus for any of us ladies.

We have talked style, now let’s talk color. A huge color you will be seeing many times strutting its way down the runway is a blush tone. The greatest thing about a blush-toned color is that it can look fabulous on virtually any skin tone. Designers showing off this trend in their collection this season include Giorgio Armani, Thorton Bergazzi, Carven, and Tory Burch.

There are so many more styles and trends to look forward to that it is blowing our fashion loving minds. Other trends to keep an eye out for include the fold, pop art, and game time (sporty). When you see these looks making their way down the runway you will know exactly which one is which. Our prediction is that the metallic look will be the biggest trend of the season considering all the hottest designers will be sending it out on the runway. We don’t want to give away too much before the big week starts, but now you know exactly what to look out for.

RHONJ’s Melissa and Joe Gorga made a special appearance to enjoy cocktails and mingle with other guests. Of course, there was shopping in store for everyone and Joe didn’t let Melissa leave empty handed. He bought his wife abeautiful lynx coat to wear on chilly nights.

So you have just created a brand new fashion line and need a way to tell the world about your creative project. Connect with the media
Getting your new designs in the media can be a hard process, but with the right fashion pr know-how you’ll be well on your way to seeing your fashion line on the pages of InStyle in no time! Start by creating a look-book of your line’s best designs and send it, along with an accompanying letter, to editors at top fashion magazines and suggest a meeting where you can bring design pieces to them. By allowing the editors to get to know your designs, they will be more apt to call-in collection piece for their upcoming stories.

Engage the Public
There are many ways that you can engage your target consumer. One of the best ways is meeting them face to face at small VIP events in key retail locations. A trunk show gives a designer the opportunity to meet with perspective clients and show off designs to the community, engaging them with the designer collection and giving them a more personal connection to it. It’s an excellent grassroots approach to develop a loyal customer following.

Connect with Local Celebrities
Celebrities have a huge influence on what people buy, so if a celebrity is wearing your creation, you can be sure it will be a major “want” for people across the globe. Connect with your local celebrities (North Jersey is the epicenter of reality television right now, so your best bet is to connect with a Real Housewife or Jerseylicious cast member!) and then do a bit of celebrity pr- send photos of celebrities wearing your designs to celebrity blogs and weekly magazines so they know you are the new up-and-coming designer that’s making a splash in Hollywood!
